It starts in the foot. It is just a tiny compulsion to tap toes to the beat. The compulsion then moves up both legs and into the torso, causing you to sway back and forth.
The music finally reaches the brain, causing all inhibitions to flee. At this point, it is best to just give in to the sounds of El Fabuloso before the brain implodes.
This denizen of dance rock comes with no preconceived notion that El Fabuloso's music is going to change the world, but the band realizes that it can still play catchy tunes as hard as it can and hope people have a good time.
We play like it's the last time and like it's the only time people are going to see us
said guitarist and lead singer Allen Sanders.
The group's MySpace page, www.myspace.com/lfabuloso, features a quote from bassist Erik Church Kemme. It reads, Be very very afraid the rock has come back and it's hungry. Church wrote the quote offhandedly, he claims, but the return of rock is descriptive of the band's resistance against the image-driven
culture that has latched onto pop/punk music, making the genre much too sad, he said.
The compulsion to act tough and wear makeup in the pop/punk scene is not what El Fabuloso is making music for, Sanders said. If you listen to bands such as Led Zeppelin or Aerosmith, they were all about gettin'
Where did the good-time loving go? Sanders inquired.
El Fabuloso would have listeners believing that the good-time loving is safe in the band's hands. The band's single love song is about the common occurrence of going to a bar and lying to a girl. The catch is that the girl spots the lie but believes it anyway simply because it is easier for both parties to believe the lie and be happy. This kind of honesty is exemplified in the band's lyrics, Sanders said.
Drawing on influences such as Jimmy Eat World and The Get Up Kids as well as more instrumental music, the band has crafted its first disc, A Fine Time To Get Down, and will be holding a release party for its products of labor this weekend.
The 12-track LP is radtacular Sanders said.
It is the epitome of spectacular and rad
he said. It's the coolness of rad with the greatness of spectacular.
Bragging aside, the juxtaposition of styles on the disc is well worth the purchase, said Nick Yezza, synthesizer player. He added that the disc will appeal to any fan of music in its pure sense.
Sanders, the band's songwriter, said he simply tried to write an album that he would buy and what he would want to hear, he said, and hopefully other people like it as well.
While this is El Fabuloso's first release together, the members are no strangers to recording. Drummer Bryan Overholt, who likes to make funny faces at the crowd, has recorded around 10 EPs with previous bands. The turnover rate in the band was high, he said, and every time a new member joined he wanted to be immortalized on record.
