Your Turn: Conservative Week meant to air not-often heard opinions in Athens

I'm addressing some issues in Cloud's column on Conservative Week. Let me ask this, would he have a problem with a diversity week? For Conservative Coming Out Day

all we did was wear Republican T-shirts, buttons, etc. Is that really so offensive? People all the time on this campus are hailing diversity, gay pride and such. Our intent was never to insult anybody, least of all the gay community.

And did he actually attend any of the events during Conservative Week? The animal rights barbecue was to point out that we're designed to eat animals, and let's have a laugh about it. No conservatives I know would criticize a vegetarian for eating a salad! I'd like to see the vegetarian try to tell a lion not to eat another animal.

The screening of Obsession was planned to convey a different viewpoint than what is normally heard on this campus. Then, in a discussion afterward, some Republicans brought up different views than what were in the movie. So does he still think that Republicans are not encouraging diversity of ideas?

Even liberals know that a good way of getting a point across is to create controversy (i.e. protests, demonstrations, etc.). On a campus where the conservative opinion is not often heard, these events are the only way to get it noticed. Maybe the liberals of this campus need their ideas challenged!
