Your Turn: 'Post' publishes cynical views

Like many others here at Ohio University, I read The Post nearly every day. It has come to my attention that the Between the Lines and Your Turn sections of the newspaper are filled with student commentary regarding race, ethnicity, tolerance and things of that nature. And all the commentaries seem to be sending the same message about our majority student population; we are regressing toward racist, sexist and barbaric behavior, and it needs to stop.

But unlike what seems to be the popular opinion among The Post columnists, the vast majority of students ' black or white, Indian or Asian ' come to college not only to learn about their respective fields, but to learn about the world itself and how individuals interact. If students wanted to be ignorant racists, they would stay at home and not bother to pay the increasing tuition costs of our nation's top colleges and universities. Students here, or anywhere for that matter, do not need to be told to be considerate and tolerant of groups and people that are labeled as other. This principle is understood and expected from every contributing member of society. Though there are exceptions, as with everything in life, of those who still practice hatred, it is not the majority here at OU, and it is unfair and ridiculous to promote this view.
