YourTurn: Make no mistake; strip club industry 'morally and spiritually bankrupt'

I read the article by Ashley Lutz on strip clubs, New law means changes for the adult entertainment industry in the May 30 Post, with interest, as I am a former stripper. The details of my experiences are on my website: www.savedfromstripclubs.org.

At the club where I worked in Los Angeles, there was a law already in place forbidding contact between dancers and patrons while we were on stage, as well as the six-foot distance law. This was totally disregarded and not enforced by the local police. In other clubs in the area, patrons and other dancers informed me that there was common sexual activity of every description between the dancers and the patrons in the VIP Rooms. At my club, a good number of the dancers were engaging in prostitution with the patrons, using the hotel conveniently located next door ' again, a very common practice in this business.

Based on my experiences and those of countless other women whom I refer to as sex industry survivors, I am now totally opposed to this profession. The reality is far worse than it appears on the surface. Employers are in the business of making big money at the expense of these young women and are morally and spiritually bankrupt. It's no myth that this is legalized prostitution. The only really, really awful fact is that strip clubs exist at all.

Thanks to Ms. Lutz for writing the article and drawing attention to this issue.' Helga Romoser writes from Mass.
