I was sorry to see a somewhat confusing statement at the end of the editorial about the Edward Mahony incident, That's fine
but why? in last week's Summer Post. The Post said, This sort of thing is inevitable. I don't know if The Post meant misunderstandings, racial slurs or discrimination, but I don't believe that any of those things are inevitable. And how effective can our work on understanding, cooperation and respect be if we start with the belief that such problems are inevitable?
Please think again.

' When constructing That's fine but why? The Summer Post editorial board had no intention of saying that racial misunderstandings and conflicts are inevitable, although the editorial may have come across that way. What The Post meant was that inevitably the decision to expel Mahony would be questioned by some on campus. The university should acknowledge this inevitable confusion and address the campus as a whole to explain its reasoning in sentencing Mahony and then adhere to this policy for similar incidents.
