Soccer team prepares for successful season

While the majority of the Ohio University student body uses summer break to relax, the Bobcats women's soccer team uses it for preparation.

Coach Stacy Strauss said that although she is not allowed to work directly with the team, she knows they are taking the necessary steps to have a successful season.

Strauss said the teammates play together and visit the weight room to work with a strength coach.

Part of the summer routine is an annual summer day camp hosted by the team. The camp is for children ages six to 14.

Strauss said the camp provides an opportunity for all the women to return to campus and work with the local youth.

In turn

those kids will come to games during the season Strauss said. (The camp) helps to foster those relationships.

The schedule for this season includes some big games outside of conference play. Strauss said the team will be looking forward to match-ups with Ohio State and Kentucky and exhibition games with Cincinnati and Michigan.

This year's team will include several veteran players with experience. Strauss said she and the rest of the team are optimistic about the season ahead.

The season begins Aug. 23 with an exhibition game at Michigan. The game will begin at 4 p.m.
