Eastern Michigan beats Huskies

In the lone Mid-American Conference game over the weekend, Eastern Michigan came back from a 13-0 first-half deficit to knock off Northern Illinois, 21-19.

Running back Pierre Walker got the Eagles on the board late in the first half on a 1-yard touchdown run. Walker's second touchdown run of the day came with just over five minutes remaining and gave Eastern Michigan (1-2, 1-1 MAC) its biggest lead of the game at 21-13.

The Huskies (0-3, 0-1 MAC) responded a minute later on a Brandon Davis 9-yard touchdown reception, but could not convert on the two-point attempt. Northern Illinois was able to make one last drive down the field, but kicker Chris Nendick's 50-yard field goal attempt was blocked as time expired.

Despite losing, the Huskies got good news over the weekend.

Demetrius Jones, who started the season as the No. 1 quarterback at Notre Dame before being benched for freshman Jimmy Clausen, enrolled at Northern Illinois this weekend. He was one of the top recruits as a high school senior in Chicago and was ranked as the No. 2 dual-threat quarterback in the 2006 senior class by recruiting service rivals.com.

Jones will sit out this season, but will be able to play for the Huskies in 2008.

In out-of-conference action, Ball State defeated Navy 34-31 in overtime.

The Cardinals (2-1) tied the game at 31-31 late in regulation on a 12-yard touchdown pass from Nate Davis to MiQuale Lewis.

Navy was able to mount a drive in the last minutes of regulation, but kicker Matt Harmon's 32-yard field goal attempt was blocked. On the first drive of overtime, the Midshipmen (1-2) fumbled, allowing Ball State to kick the game-winning field goal.

Both teams combined to gain over 1,000 yards of total offense, with the Midshipmen accumulating 585 yards-
