Editor's Note: Check out the new Web site

At about 2:40 p.m., we got the call: Chipotle is really coming to Athens.

At 7 p.m., we posted the story on our Web site, letting the world know.Quite frankly, we were too slow.

Today marks the launch of The Post's new Web site. For the first time in our history, we'll be able to share videos, photo slideshows and other multimedia with our readers. We'll have a much more attractive, graphical presentation of stories with the same easy-to-navigate feel of our old site.

But more importantly than any of that, our new Web site is changing the way we think about news at The Post. We've moved up our deadline schedule to have noon meetings every day just to talk about what we can put on the Web. We don't want our Web site to be a static page where we dump the contents of every day's newspaper. We want it to be a constantly changing, interactive site that keeps you checking in all day long.

And from now on, when we know something, you'll know it, too.

When our football team takes on Virginia Tech this weekend, you won't have to wait until Monday to find out what happened. You can log onto The Post's Web site Saturday night to get a complete game recap.

If, God forbid, Chipotle backs out of Athens, we'll break it first on the Web. And we'll do it a little bit quicker than we did last time.

It's well past time The Post entered the 21st century and embraced the Internet. Today, we're taking a step in the right direction. Log on to www.thepost.ohiou.edu and see what it's all about.
