When the Ohio University football team arrived in Athens after Saturday's win against Louisiana-Lafayette, players and support staff were met with a parking lot full of ticketed cars ' tickets that were mistakenly issued and that they won't have to pay.
OU Parking Services had issued special parking passes to the team that should have excluded it from being ticketed, but the passes issued were the wrong ones, said Jason Corriher, director of media relations in the Intercollegiate Athletics Office. -
including our support staff he said.
Contacted for comment, Parking Services referred The Post to the university's public relations arm. Sally Linder, senior director of media relations, said she wasn't familiar with the situation and did not know if similar situations have occurred in the past.
It was an unfortunate misunderstanding on (Parking Services') part Corriher said. It's just one of those things that happens sometimes.
The cars were parked in Lot 132, which is between Peden Stadium and Richland Avenue, said Corriher. The passes, however, did not list Lot 132, he said.
Lot 132 is a purple lot, meaning that from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, it is reserved for student commuters and faculty and staff with a dark green or purple permits. The lot is open to the public all other times, according to Parking Services Web site, http://www.facilities.ohiou.edu/parking.
Players and staff received the tickets Sunday and were informed that they did not have to pay fines yesterday, Grooms said.
(Parking Services) are doing the right thing by helping us out
he said.
Parking Services collected nearly $1 million in parking fees and fines in 2005, according to a Feb. 9 Post article.
