The Yellow Line: Modern women are losing the equality battle

I won't deny being moderately vain. I wear make-up, color my hair and don short skirts. However, I considered my skin, which is normally the color of typing paper, my one stance against society's laws of female attractiveness G

not I want to know you as a person.

The issue is that those who disagree are the minority. It's hard for change to happen when most people continue this bizarre courtship of free alcohol in exchange for a number. Whatever happened to sending flowers?

Some people might argue that if being attractive will get a woman better opportunities, then why shouldn't she exploit it? The problem with this philosophy is that in the long run, it isn't helping her. Eventually, beauty will fade.

If women continue to clamber up the social ladder by transforming themselves into Barbie dolls, then they are continuously replacing older versions of themselves. Look at relationship trends. Men constantly leave their wives for younger women.

The Stepford wife was once an urban legend. In the movie, it took computer chips to turn the women into servile wives. Today, however, Glenn Close's character wouldn't need technology. In fact, she would be at peace on most college campuses.

Being pretty isn't bad. It's just that there is more to a person than looks. Women seem to fear that by using their brains, they are driving away potential boyfriends. Honestly, though, who really wants to be with a guy who would be content marrying a blow-up doll?

Women need to stop relying on manipulation tactics as a means to attract men. Many men are wising up to this act. There are good guys out there who want to be with someone who is her own person and not a Barbie clone. Along the same vein, if a woman was actually hired on looks alone, who knows if she could perform at her job?

Truthfully, there is nothing wrong achieving success and being attractive ' as long as looks weren't the only reason why a person found success.
