Members of the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail board gathered yesterday to discuss the possibility of Vinton County joining the board.
Membership is free; however, members pay a reduced fee of $45.50 per bed, said Jeremy Tolson, the jail's warden. Vinton County currently is under contract with the jail, paying $50 a day for each of its 10 beds. Nonmembers and those not under contract pay $65 a day. There are 218 beds in the facility, with Athens County paying for 76 of them.
Vinton County Commissioners Tom Morgan and Michael Bledsoe and Sheriff David Hickey attended the session. They will discuss the possibility of joining at a later date and should have a decision by the end of October, Bledsoe said.
Vinton County would also like to add 10 more beds if they decide to join the board.
If Vinton County decides to join, two-thirds of the board members must approve its membership. -
