A former secretary for the Ohio University Russ College of Engineering and Technology who was convicted of stealing more than $40,000 from the university has been released from prison early.
Kylie Collins, 28, of McArthur, was released yesterday after serving about six months of a three-year prison sentence. Athens County Court of Common Pleas Judge Michael Ward released Collins according to the terms of a plea agreement made when she was sentenced in March, said Robert Driscoll, Athens county assistant prosecutor.
Collins was charged in February with one fourth-degree felony count of grand theft and two third-degree felony counts of theft in office. The scam involved posting nonexistent books for sale on Amazon.com. Collins then purchased the books for the university using an OU purchasing card. The money was sent to Collins, but the books were never received.
Other terms of Collins' sentencing included paying restitution to the university. Collins paid the university in full May 21, according to court records.
Calls to Claire Buzz Ball, Collins' attorney, were not returned.
