Personnel Plus relocates, hosts award ceremony

Personnel Plus opened their new facility at 20 Kern St. yesterday afternoon, where they will be able to provide individuals with disabilities a more focused training program.

Personnel Plus, an ATCO affiliate, is an employment service for individuals with disabilities that is associated with the Athens County Board of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities. It has helped 68 people with both physical and mental disabilities be employed to over 40 businesses in Athens, said Job Developer Wendy Jakmas.

reliable energetic workers said Larry Payne, the Athens Chamber of Commerce membership services coordinator and a member of Personnel Plus' Business Advisory Council. It's good for the economy and the community.

Personnel Plus's former location, 21 S. Campbell St., was very crammed and people would be more comfortable going to the new location, said Steve Koch, habilitation specialist.

Diagnostic Hybrids donated a new computer system and projector to help train people with disabilities, said Douglas Mitchell, director of Personnel Plus.

Personnel Plus also gave awards to individuals and businesses in Athens for their willingness to support people with disabilities.

Ohio University President Roderick McDavis presented a Trailblazer award to Josh Boyer, who has mental and physical disabilities, for his exceptional work the past two years as receptionist at the OU Innovation Center.

Susan Barga from Larry Conrath Realty won an award for her financial support of Personnel Plus and the time she volunteered to help open the new facility.

Avalanche Pizza, who has employed an individual from Personnel Plus for over four years, received the Ambassador Award for going to great lengths to support an employee with a disability.

Kroger won a Trailblazer Award for employing four people with disabilities through Personnel Plus.
