Receivers' drops surprise, frustrate Solich

Wide receiver Chido Nwokocha stayed a little bit longer at practice yesterday and for good reason.

Brad Bower was just 6-of-16 throwing the ball on Saturday, but his numbers would have looked a lot better had the Bobcat receivers not dropped so many balls.

One drop by tight end Andrew Mooney would have given the Bobcats at least a first down inside the 5-yard line, and drops by Nwokocha and Chris Garrett would have given the Bobcats first downs.

All the drops came down to a lack of focus on our part. It's something that we are correcting right now

Nwokocha said. We understand our mistakes. We've reviewed it and we're out here. We're going to correct it. We're going to make it better.

The drops were surprising to coach Frank Solich because the unit had been so consistent up to that point.

We think we have a good group of overall receivers ' that's why the number of dropped passes in that last ballgame was frustrating for us all Solich said. It's just something that happened. I don't expect for it to continue to happen.

Ground game struggling

Running back Kalvin McRae hasn't run for more than 100 yards often this season, but that isn't anything new.

Through his first five games last season, McRae had run for more than 100 yards just once. After those five games though, McRae rushed for over 100 yards seven straight games and finished the season with over 1,329 yards.

Like last season, McRae has rushed for more than 100 yards just once. The only difference between the start of this season and last season is that McRae has rushed for 172 more yards.

I'm not frustrated. I figured coming into the season that teams were going to try and stop the run McRae said. I have to continue to be patient and know that my time will come.

Injury report

Ohio has been banged up all season long and this week is no different.

Linebacker Chris Hall is out with a broken hand, but Solich said that he hopes to have Hall back soon.

Center Tommy Stuck is questionable, along with freshman wide receiver Matt Donahue, who has a swollen thumb. If Stuck can't go, backup David White will get his second straight start after starting at left guard last week.

Left guard Mike Eynon should be ready to go against Buffalo, along with linebacker Jordan Meyers.

Scouting for the future

Scouts from a number of different teams were seen throughout the week.

A scout from the St. Louis Rams was at practice Sept. 24, and two Cleveland Browns scouts showed up to watch practice last Tuesday.

Scouts from the Kansas City Chiefs, Cincinnati Bengals and Minnesota Vikings were at Saturday's game.
