Time is winding down on the Bobcats.
This weekend brings two of the last three contests left on Ohio's schedule, and last chances to accomplish the goal coach Stacy Strauss has set out for her team ' to win the Mid-American Conference title.
With games against Bowling Green and Toledo, Ohio (4-8-3, 4-3-1 MAC) will be looking to secure a home game for the upcoming MAC Tournament. Strauss said this weekend is make-or-break in terms of getting one.
It's huge
Strauss said. If we're expecting to play at home I don't think we can afford to lose. Our backs are up against the wall.
The top four teams in the conference will host the fifth through eighth seeds in the tournament, which starts Nov. 4.
The Rockets offense leads the MAC in goals scored (31) and goals per game (1.94).- they have certainly worked their way up
and I'm sure they're anxious to host a tournament game and finish in the top four for the first time
Strauss said.
Meanwhile, the Falcons (6-9-1, 3-5 MAC) have played five overtime games this season, like Ohio. They also boast a top goalkeeper in Alexa Arsenault, who has the second-highest save percentage (.849) in the conference.
The MAC preseason polls seem to have had it all wrong this season. Bowling Green was picked to finish second and Toledo was predicted to finish in an eighth-place tie with Eastern Michigan.
Strauss said she has never put much stock into the preseason polls, which ranked her Bobcats third in the conference this year.
Even in years when we've been picked first
I haven't really appreciated that
Strauss said. The preseason poll never seems to pan out.
