The American Association of University Women is hosting an open informational tea today from 4 to 6 p.m.
The AAUW is an organization that focuses on furthering civil rights for women through advocacy, education and research, said Mary Lee Powell, president of the Athens branch, in a news release.
At the tea, members will discuss the goals of the organization and educational opportunities available to women in Athens.
The AAUW Educational Foundation offers many scholarships and is considered to be one of the largest sources of funding for graduate women, Powell said in the release. The AAUW's Legal Advocacy Fund is used to fight sex discrimination in higher education.
The Athens Branch of the AAUW sponsors the Edith W. Wray Scholarship at Ohio University.
The tea will take place at the Women's Center on the fourth floor of Baker University Center.
