One of Athens City Council's youngest members will announce tonight whether she will finish her two-year term, which began in January.
Councilwoman Amy Flowers, who was re-elected to her at-large seat in November, has taken a job as a bailiff in a Columbus courthouse, creating questions as to whether she'll finish her term on council. While she did confirm her new job, Flowers would not comment on her 2008 to 2010 council position.
In an election endorsement interview with The Post Editorial Board last fall, Flowers said she would complete her term despite plans to enroll in law school.
A Facebook event created by Flowers invited guests to a Going Away Party on Saturday to celebrate her new job, as she would be moving to Columbus very soon
according to the event profile.
Flowers, an OU graduate student studying public administration, was originally elected in 2005 and is chair of the transportation committee.
While it's possible for a council member to work in Columbus and still serve out his or her term, it's unclear as to whether Flowers will do so, said Rob Dorans, president of Ohio University College Democrats.
The duties of a bailiff vary depending on the court, but can include prisoner transportation, assisting juries, court administration and serving subpoenas, according to the bailiff's manual from the Ohio Bailiffs and Court Officers Association.
