A Nelsonville resident faces more than a life sentence in prison if convicted on 32 counts, including the rape of a boy under 13 years old.
Richard L. Amos, 48, was indicted Monday for one count of rape. He also will appear before Athens County Court of Common Pleas Judge Alan Goldsberry on March 5 to address one count of illegally possessing a weapon and 30 counts of downloading and reproducing child pornography, Athens County Prosecutor C. Dave Warren said.
The Nelsonville Police arrested Amos after the victim's sister reported the alleged rape on Feb. 22, a Nelsonville police officer said.
Bond was set at $50,000 for the rape charge, and Amos is still in the Southeast Ohio Regional Jail, Warren said.
The previous prosecutor's administration charged Amos with felonious assault and placed him on a five-year probation in 2001 for shooting at a juvenile, according to court documents.
