Republican candidates campaign for 18th district Congressional seat

Four Republican candidates will compete against two Democrats in Tuesday's primary to represent the 18th district in Congress, currently held by Democrat Zack Space.

Fred Dailey of Mt. Vernon, Beau Bromberg of Newark, Jeanette Moll of Zanesville, and Paul Phillips of Chillicothe are pro-life, pro-Second Amendment and anti-illegal immigration candidates. They said they want limited government involvement in everyday life and more jobs created, and they are competing for a $169,300 salaried position.

Dailey, the longest-serving director of the Ohio Department of Agriculture and an alumnus of Anderson University and Ball State University, works on his family's farm in Knox County raising Angus cattle.

He's ethical and honest

said David Payne, Dailey's campaign coordinator. He's accessible and young at heart.

Bromberg is a business manager with no political experience and a graduate of Newark Catholic High School. He said he believes the district should send one of us instead of another politician to Congress.

I'm an average person Bromberg said. Washington is out of touch. We keep sending the same people expecting change-

which has slowed down the production and improvement of jobs

he said. The jobs are being held up by federal government.

Moll, an attorney and Notre Dame University alumna, has experience in all three branches of government at all three levels

and said she is concerned with building infrastructure in Southeast Ohio.

(We need to bring) in stable water and sewer systems and cell phone access to encourage accessibility to the area to bring employers here

she said.

Moll said she wants to lower taxes, reduce bureaucracy and implement permanent tax cuts.

I want to make Ohio and the nation more competitive

she said.

Phillips, who is an attorney and small-business owner and alumnus of Ohio State, Abilene Christian and Regent universities, also has no political experience, but he said his experience in national security and being a veteran of the Iraq War is beneficial to the public.

I've seen the decline in our district's economy

and I want to change it

Phillips said, adding that he has a love of his district because he was born and raised in it. Young people need access to higher-education and job opportunities.

I'm hard-core against illegal immigration

he said. I also want to protect the aging population like Social Security and Medicare and lower taxes.
