Women's Basketball: Ohio to face Bowling Green in crucial MAC East battle

Ohio's 67-63 loss to Buffalo was a big hit to the team's chances of winning the Mid-American Conference East Division, but the Bobcats can't let that bother them for long.

The Bobcats' rival, first-place Bowling Green, comes to The Convo tonight in a crucial battle for tournament seeding.

It was a disappointing loss

coach Sylvia Crawley said. The good thing about this team is that they love to play against Bowling Green G? they will be ready.

The Bobcats are just 3-8 in the team's last 11 meetings against Bowling Green. Seniors Quintana Ward and Simone Redd have beaten the Falcons only once in their careers.

Earlier this season, Ohio was thumped by Bowling Green, losing 60-45 on the road. Crawley said she can tell that the Bobcats are ready to get some revenge just by watching practice.

It was a different type of practice and atmosphere Crawley said. You could just tell by the intensity and their face and how they moved and how they were communicating on defense.

After its loss to Buffalo, Ohio fell a game-and-a-half behind Bowling Green with four games to play. The Bobcats are currently a half-game behind Miami for second place. They will face the RedHawks again on the road next Wednesday. The top two teams in each division get a first-round bye in the MAC playoffs, so a win against Bowling Green would dramatically boost the Bobcats' chances of grabbing one of the two spots.

We haven't put it all together yet Crawley said. We're not as mentally tough as we need to be.

It is also senior night for some of the most decorated Bobcats in program history. Lauren Kohn, who is in just her second season with Ohio, was named to ESPN's Academic All-America Women's Team for the second straight season.

She ranks in the top ten in Bobcats history in field goals made, 3-point field goals made in a season and career points per game.

Redd will end her career as one of only 12 women's basketball players to score 1,000 career points at Ohio. She is also in the top 10 in 3-point field goals made and 3-point percentage in her career.

Ward is currently second on the team's all-time assists list with 436.

It's going to be an intense environment

Crawley said. We owe them one.
