I met Bill Clinton, former President of the United States, yesterday at the Athens Community Center. Many said that they could not miss class, but who would turn down a chance to see our former president and possibly the new First Gentleman in action?
After attending his rally, I thought about my own life and why I feel that now more than ever it is important for the younger generation to get out to the polls and vote for their favorite candidate.
One may ask, Why should I vote? Does my vote even count? Why ask these questions when we live in a democratic country? It is our right, and the right of all individuals, to have an opinion on who runs our country. Young people in other countries would fight or even die to have an inalienable right such as this, a right that so many of us take for granted.
The current hot topics have an effect on our generation, and we must vote to get our voice heard. This year, on Nov. 4, Election Day, I as well as many of my friends are heading to the polls to exercise our rights as American citizens.
