A female Ohio University student who reported her abduction last month admitted the event had not occurred, according to an OU press release.
On Feb. 7, the student claimed that three white and one black men had taken her from the Aquatic Center to Emeriti Park, where she was then able to escape.
We take any such allegations very seriously and work hard as a department and an institution to make it safe and comfortable for students to report an assault or harassment that has occurred
OU Police Chief Michael Martinsen said in a news release.
OUPD has kept the case open to find out why the false report was filed, he said in the release. All suspects linked to the case have been cleared.
