Gun fired on South Green

A college-aged male wearing a North Face jacket fired a gun outside Brown Hall early yesterday morning, according to a campus crime alert.

At about 3:30 a.m. Sunday, the man shot a gun into the air on South Green, according to an Ohio University Police Department crime alert.

The male suspect was not aiming his gun at an individual or any of the front four dorms on South Green, said OUPD Sgt. John Stabler.

You cannot discharge a firearm in city limits (within which OU resides)

and firing on campus is an issue as well he said, adding that the specific crime the suspect would be charged with is up to the prosecutor.

Unauthorized possession of a firearm is a Code A offense at OU and can result in a reprimand, disciplinary probation, suspension or expulsion, according to the OU Student Code of Conduct.

A witness described the male suspect as between 5 foot 10 inches and 6 feet tall, wearing a gray pair of sweat pants and North Face jacket and either a hooded sweatshirt or hat, according to the report. Stabler acknowledged that this description would fit many people, but said he could not comment further.

I can't tell you where we are in the investigation or what we have found he said.
