Lindsey eliminated from tournament

Following his 1-2 showing at the NCAA Championships last Friday in St. Louis, Germane Lindsey used one word over and over again to describe what the competition meant to him.Experience.

I wanted to do better. I wasn't satisfied with my performance

the 141-pound true freshman said. But I'm glad I went up there. It was a different level of wrestling.

Lindsey fell in the first round of the winner's bracket to Boise State's Levi Jones, 8-2, before beating Penn's Richard Rappo in his first bout of the consolation bracket by an 8-6 mark.

Cornell's Adam Frey eliminated Lindsey from the competition in his second match in the consolation bracket.

Lindsey, who finished the season with a 20-17 record, has told The Post on more than one occasion that his ultimate goal while wrestling at Ohio is to win a national championship. As one of the few freshmen participating last weekend, he said that experience will be invaluable if he can get to the same position next season.

Staying patient and keeping his nerves under control were just a few of the lessons Lindsey took away from the weekend, he said.

I saw how good the competition was said Lindsey, whose 20 wins were the most on the Bobcats. You've got to have fun and relax up there because everybody's so good. Anybody could win on any given day.

One other thing Lindsey said he would take away from his experience at the NCAA Championships was the support of his teammates. Although Winter Quarter exams prevented most of the other wrestlers from making the trip to St. Louis, Lindsey said he received numerous phone calls from his teammates Friday morning wishing him luck.

It was kind of awkward going (to St. Louis) by myself Lindsey said. But I still knew that they were behind me.

Lindsey's elimination concluded the Bobcats' season, which included a 6-16 record in dual competitions and a fourth-place finish at the Mid-American Conference Tournament.
