After finishing with a 1-3 record against his former team, guard Bubba Walther does not want to end his career on a losing note to Akron.
The senior, who dropped his final three games ' including two this season ' to the Zips, said he would enjoy seeing them again in the Mid-American Conference Tournament one more time.
I wouldn't mind having another shot against them because I am 1-3 against them now
he said. The only time I'll see them again is in Cleveland which is right there and I know I'll here boos every time I touch it.
In his four games against the Zips, Walther averaged 11.3 points per game, though the difference in his output in The Convo and at Akron are tremendous. In the two games at home, the senior averaged 19 points per game, while he scored just seven total points in his two games at Rhodes Arena.
I actually like playing against them Walther said. During the first minute or two that I am in
I am really fired up just because I know all that happened.
Walther, who would have been a part of this season's senior class at Akron that includes guards Cedrick Middleton and Nick Dials and forward Jeremiah Wood, said he still talks to some of his former teammates.
I still keep in touch with some of those guys
even tonight I was talking to them and joking with them out there
he said after Tuesday's 80-77 defeat. I miss playing with some of those guys.
Although the guard did not leave Akron under the best of circumstances, Walther added that he has let bygones be bygones in regards to his once strained relationship with the Zips coaching staff.
I've really put everything behind me
Walther said. I mean I talked to (Akron coach Keith Dambrot) outside for about 10 minutes. Everything with all the feelings are all good and it's just behind me. I just want to beat them.Williams for Player of the Year?
Dambrot praised Ohio forward Leon Williams for his performance against the Zips Tuesday, where the senior scored 23 points, including 17 in the first half.Williams, who leads the MAC in rebounding and is third in scoring, is one of the top candidates for conference Player of the Year along with Kent State guard Al Fisher, Dambrot said.
