Crawley leaves Ohio to take coaching job at Boston College

Ohio women's basketball coach Sylvia Crawley will be named Boston College's new head coach today at a 2:30 p.m. news conference.

Crawley, 35, leaves Athens after compiling a 38-25 record in just two seasons with the Bobcats. She earned a $123,600 annual salary.

She turned around an Ohio program that hadn't had a winning season in eight years. In her first season, the Bobcats went 18-12. Last season Ohio was 20-13 and went to its first Mid-American Conference tournament championship game since 1986. The 20 wins were the most wins by a Bobcat team in the last 13 years.

Crawley, who was reached on her cell phone, directed all comments to the Ohio Media Relations Department.

be it here at Ohio or at other institutions said Jim Schaus, Ohio director of athletics.

Crawley was known for her creative ways of trying to increase attendance at women's basketball games. During halftime of the Ohio men's basketball game against George Mason, Crawley donned a cheerleader outfit and waved pompoms to the amusement of the crowd.

Last week, Crawley was on a panel for the Financial Literacy Student Seminar, where she encouraged students to have a Plan B in the event that they do not reach their personal goals.

It is unclear if any of Crawley's current staff will follow her to Boston College or if any of the five players that recently signed a national letter of intent with Ohio will be given permission to leave the program if they choose.

The Steubenville native will replace Cathy Inglese, who announced her resignation April 10 after 15 years with the Eagles.
