With all the injuries this spring, coach Frank Solich just wants to get out of tomorrow's Green and White game without any more players getting banged up.
Ohio has lost some key players to injury, especially on the defensive side of the ball. First-team linebacker Noah Keller is out along with defensive ends Kris Luchsinger, Conor Reilly and safety Steven Jackson, among others.
We're going to treat it as much like a game as possible
Solich said. Even guys that weren't initially injured are showing signs of being banged up a little bit. So both lines offensive and defensive are a little bit of a problem.
While the players usually get excited to play in a game-like atmosphere in front of a crowd, Solich said he looks at the game as nothing more than a glorified practice.
I like it when it's used as another practice opportunity to get better
Solich said. We want to work on execution and we want to see if we have been able to smooth anything out from day one.
After weighing different options, the coaches have decided to change the format of the spring game this season. The first-teamers will go against the second-teamers. The No. 1 offense will be pitted against the No. 2 defense and the No. 2 offense will go against the No. 1 defense.
Thus far, the offense has dominated the injury-ridden defense.
In the first scrimmage of the spring, the offense scored five touchdowns and in the second scrimmage they scored four, despite a steady rainfall.
Offensive lineman Josh Leuck said the offense wants to keep the momentum going.
It's always fun to stick it in the defense's face
Leuck said. The past couple of (years)
we've gotten shut down in the scrimmages
but this year's been a little bit different. We've been able to show what we've got going for us.
Bragging rights are also at stake when the two teams face off.
Cornerback Julian Posey said that he is undefeated in the spring game and doesn't want to relinquish the pride that comes with winning.
We're definitely going to get into it
Posey said. Bodies are going to fly
people are going to make plays and someone is going to step up big.
You definitely want to put in all of your ability and play hard in the game.

With a bold we still aren't completely satisfied with Brown vs. Board of Education mentality at hand
the apparently great concept of resegregation has been brought to the table to help today's kids learn more efficiently. Thankfully
race isn't the issue at hand
