Free lectures to address health care for the elderly

The College of Osteopathic Medicine & Health and Human Services along with the Western Reserve Geriatric Education Center and the Athens Public Library will kick off its second Caregiver Series at 6 p.m. tomorrow at the Athens Public Library, 30 Home St.

The weekly lectures will cover topics like power of attorney agreements, choosing assisted living and understanding the difference between Medicare and Medicaid in order to prepare caregivers for dealing with health care and insurance coverage for the elderly. This series provides five meetings for people who need to know the tools and resources of being a caregiver for senior citizens

said Betty Jo Parsley, a public relations librarian.

In Athens County, 18.6 percent of households have individuals over the age of 65, according to the 2000 Census. The series is free and open to the public.
