Coach Bob Cooley thinks his team needs a change of pace after a disappointing finish last weekend.
The men's golf coach is considering traveling with the women to Ball State this weekend, and assistant Jeff Hetler would accompany the men to Kentucky.
Cooley was not pleased with the men's short game at Marshall last weekend, especially on a course he thought would yield good scores.
Our short games just weren't very good last weekend
Cooley said. We're going to a long difficult golf course this weekend.
It will be a good test, especially with the weather, which is supposed to be bad.
In preparation for this weekend's UK Bluegrass Invitational at the Big Blue Course in Lexington the Ohio coach gathered his team for an hour-long chipping and putting practice Wednesday afternoon.
Sophomore Chad Warmbein appears to be warming up at the right time. He shot a second-round 73 at Marshall to finish at 152
seven strokes behind Ohio's leader
Mark Phillips.
The first round last week, I made a couple bad swings that cost me double-bogeys, Warmbein said. After that, I laid back a little bit and settled down, and hit the ball much better.
The length of the Big Blue Course presents a unique challenge coupled with anticipated wet conditions. Those players who carry the ball far off the tee will be at an advantage
Warmbein said.
Longer players can hit shorter clubs into the greens, Warmbein said. I'm slightly longer than average (off the tee), so I think it will help.
The Ohio women visit Delaware Country Club in Muncie
Ind.
this weekend for the Cardinal Classic hosted by Ball State.
A new venue means new challenges and a feeling-out process
and a course such as Delaware CC presents a stern test in itself. With tight fairways and small
tricky greens
the Bobcats will have their hands full from the first tee.
Senior Katie Stafford knows very little about Delaware CC
