Although he wasn't able to talk to The Post as of last night, the final candidate for Student Senate president said it wasn't because of his unwillingness to speak to the press, but rather his full schedule that prevented him from explaining his party's platform.
Senior Mashur Rahman, a third-year international student from Bangladesh, is running for senate president with the Action through Communication and Teamwork party (ACT). Rahman was reluctant to give out the names of the other students on the ACT OU ticket because there are still some complications
he said. The names will be released at a news conference at noon April 22.
If he were elected, Rahman said he would increase the senate's accountability to students. He cited the outdated Web site, the lack of e-mails to senators' constituents and overall poor communications as the current problems surrounding the organization.
To reverse these shortcomings, he said he would try to impeach any member who didn't follow the requirements.
I want it to be very strict because we are an elected body and we should be held accountable Rahman said.
In addition, he said he wanted to work closely with the Graduate Student Senate, and he suggests their independence as well.
They need more leeway Rahman said. They need more space. They can make their own decisions.
Although he hasn't been involved in the senate before, he considers himself qualified and balanced enough in his opinions to take the job.
