The race for Graduate Student Senate president is now underway with two candidates up for next year's position.
Kaustubh Nande and Peter Wickman will both appear on the ballot May 15. Wickman, who is currently in the senate representing the Department of History, will lead the Graduate Solidarity Party. Nande, who is running as an independent, does not currently serve on the senate.
Both candidates are really well qualified for the job
said current senate President Dominic Barbato, who added that said he hopes that after he leaves, senators continue to advocate lower fees, higher grant funds and subsidized health care.
Next year I hope (GSS) will continue to do what it's doing and to grow and expand
he said.
Besides Wickham, the Graduate Solidarity Party's ticket includes executive officers Stephan Oechsle as Vice
President for Committees & Legislative Affairs, Jennifer Schuler as Vice President for Communications and Paul Isherwood as Treasurer.
Because Nande is not affiliated with any party, he does not have any other candidates on his ticket.
Nande is currently a second-year doctoral student in organizational communication, while Wickman, a third-year graduate student, is working toward a doctorate in history.
Campaigning for the position, as well as other positions for senators of the various colleges, begins today.-
