Graphic design exhibition pops up in Siegfred

This year's senior graphic design class at Ohio University is getting the message to the public instantly.

Titled Instant Messaging

The College of Fine Arts 2008 Senior Graphic Design Class BFA Thesis exhibition starts today and runs until May 31.

The students felt the theme 'Instant Messaging' had the most graphic possibility and opportunity for thought process for the audience, said Christopher Palacios, a visiting professor in the school of art. The message is also a great play on words, he added.

This exhibit is not the average watch the computer screen type of show. It includes various media, from pop-up books to a live music show.

People won't just come and view pieces hanging on the walls, said Laura Biel, a senior graphic design major.

Viewers will get to physically interact with a lot of the work, she said.

The projects in the exhibit will explore different topics based on a recent study abroad trip to Mexico, the environment and advertising.

The exhibit will show the students' personal interests as well as career goals, Palacios said.

Each student was encouraged to pursue something that would take the form of their career interest he said.

The exhibit will be in the Ohio University Art Gallery in Siegfred Hall. An opening reception will be held on tonight from 6 to 9. These events are free and open to the public.
