Graduate Student Senate inducted its new members for the 2008-09 school year at last night's meeting, its last of the year.
New Senate President Peter Wickman, a first-year doctoral student in the history department, ran unopposed as a part of the Graduate Solidarity Party. Wickman, originally from Novi, Mich., received his undergraduate degree from Kalamazoo College in Michigan.
We have big shoes to fill
Wickman said, Hopefully we will be able to continue the effective advocacy that President Barbato started.
Wickman also said he hopes to continue to bring more attention to graduate student health care.
While former Senate President Dominic Barbato was in office, the senate successfully lobbied to secure $110,000 worth of health care subsidies for graduate assistants.
