Athens police yesterday released the names of two college students found dead in a Riverpark Towers apartment early Saturday morning.
Ohio University senior Kelly P. Armbruster and Hocking College student Christopher A. Theil were found in apartment 408 of Building 35, said Athens Police Department Lt. Jeff McCall in a news release.
Armbruster, of Powell, and Theil, of Athens, were both 22 years old.
McCall said he could not comment on whether the students were romantically linked, but Armbruster's Facebook profile indicated she was in a relationship with Chris Theil of Hocking College.
Athens police officers and Southeast Ohio Emergency Medical Services found the two students in the apartment at 6:18 a.m. Saturday and investigated on the scene into the afternoon, said Athens Police Lt. Ralph Harvey. The student's names were not released until 7:15 p.m. yesterday.
The original call to 911 came from a female family member who had found Armbruster and Theil, Harvey said, but declined to comment further.
The reason for the delay in releasing the names is to inform the family first
McCall said. He declined to comment further on the investigation or the possible causes of the deaths.
Both bodies were taken to the Montgomery County Medical Examiner's Office for autopsies, according to the police news release.
Police carried a woman's garment bag out of Building 35 between 10:30 and 11:00 a.m. Saturday, said Tiera Evans, an OU junior who lives in the building. No crime scene tape or signs were visible in the building at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
If there had been an immediate threat we would have issued an appropriate warning or notification Harvey said. Riverpark declined to comment on the deaths.
