Coach Clay Calkins wore an unfamiliar hat on Saturday, and he might want to try it on more often.
Ohio finished first at their own event with 322.5 team points, blowing by second-place Marshall, who had 141.5 points.
The Bobcats' coach was a busy man in the press box at Goldsberry Track, posting results and making sure every event ran smoothly for his Green and White Invite. It was a change from life on the road, where he and throws coach Nick Pero are able to wander around and catch glimpses of many athletes.
You see the coaches running around
you just don't get to see a lot of the meet Calkins said. There's a lot more work that needs to be done but there are a lot of plusses to it.
Seven first-place finishes were turned in by Bobcat athletes, the most in any event this season.
Senior Carime Reinhart, who earlier in the week said she was focusing on enjoying her final home meet as a Bobcat, had one of her best showings of the outdoor season.
Reinhart ran the 800-meters for the first time this season, and took first place with a season-best time of 2:21.94. She also won the 1,500 meters with a season-best time.
Distance coach Mitch Bentley mixed up combinations for the distance runners on Saturday in an attempt to create a laid-back atmosphere and keep the team loose for the Mid-American Conference Championships, he said.
I haven't ran (the 800-meters) since high school
Reinhart joked. I ran different races than usual.
It makes me pretty hyped up going to MACs. Winning at home, too, it was just cool.
MAC Field Athlete of the Week Bahiyjaui Allen won the shot put for the second week in a row
missing her record-setting mark by five inches. Jessie Tanner
from Newark
Ohio
won the javelin throw competition and was backed up in second place by teammate Melissa Gressick.
The field was really good today, Calkins said. (Allen) had a good day, winning the shot put again.
It was a good day on the track
too. We had a lot of good performances.
The 4x100 meter relay team of Brittany Vinson, Melissa Wiley, Chanelle Harmon and Shareyna Spears took first place, and though she admitted to having a rough day, Vinson couldn't complain about the results. She also took second place in the long jump.
It was a rough meet
I don't know
Vinson said. Everyone's pretty much occupied
