Your Turn: Feature positive events, not 'alcohol-drenched' messes

Perhaps I should not have been surprised to pick up The Post (yesterday) morning to see pictures of beer bongs and college students rolling around in the mud plastered on the front page, given that Five Fest has such an important impact in this community. What better way could there be to combat the irresponsible drunken I'm just here to party college student image than pictures and an article about excessive drinking, rioting and mud wrestling? My suggestion would have been to feature a more positive event such as Relay for Life or the International Street Fair or even the March of Dimes on the cover, all of which took place this past weekend. While you did have articles on two of the events, you missed a wonderful opportunity to showcase the generosity and selflessness of Relay for Life participants or the true spirit of diversity with the International Street Fair. Here is to hoping next time volunteerism and cultural awareness win out over an alcohol-drenched, traffic-inducing mess.
