Wanting to protect the privacy of candidates, a job search firm backed out of contract discussions with Ohio University, delaying the search to fill the head of Communications and Marketing position.
Isaacson, Miller, a firm based in Boston, was not comfortable with Ohio open records law, said Brice Bible, Chief Information Officer. Bible chairs a 14-member search committee formed in April by President Roderick McDavis to replace Joe Brennan, former executive director of Communications and Marketing.
Brennan left OU for a new position at the University at Buffalo in February. Brennan is making $170,000 compared to his $150,000 at OU and managing a staff of more than 40 employees. Gina Calcamuggio, senior director of Marketing Communications, was appointed as interim for the position.
We are working to get a search firm on contract
but do not have one on contract yet he said, adding that in most cases the search firm is paid a percentage of the position's salary.
The search committee is charged with identifying and evaluating candidates and bringing finalists to campus for local interviews. OU has allotted approximately $50,000 plus expenses for the search, said Sally Linder, senior director of media relations.
Bible said there has not been a delay, but the president wants the committee to move as quickly as possible.
We do not want to move so fast that we miss good candidates for the university he said.
The committee still needs to go over job description and there will be a period of time to review applications, Bible said, adding they won't be moving fast until July.
Qualifications for candidates include at least 10 years of professional experience, a senior-level position and a master's degree in a communications-related field is preferred.
We want to give adequate time
Bible said This is a great job. We want to get the best candidate to fill the job.
