Top Ohio State assistant to replace O'Shea

Multiple sources have confirmed that Ohio State associate coach Jim Groce will be named the new Ohio men's basketball coach at a 1 p.m. news conference tomorrow.

Groce, the top assistant under current Buckeyes coach Thad Matta, has worked for 14 years as an assistant coach. While at Ohio State, he was part of a coaching staff that reached the National Championship game in 2007 and helped lure top recruits Greg Oden and Mike Conley to the Buckeyes.

The 35 year old from Danville, Indiana, has also worked as an assistant at North Carolina State and Xavier, where he helped lead the team to an Elite Eight appearance in 2004.

Groce replaces former Ohio coach Tim O'Shea who took the job at Bryant University Monday.

Messages left on Groce's office telephone have not been returned.
