The third of three men accused of setting off a pipe bomb in downtown Nelsonville has pleaded not guilty.
Roy E. Plant III, 18, of Nelsonville, pleaded not guilty Friday to charges of arson, aggravated arson and possession of unlawful ordnance. Bond was not set, as Athens County Common Pleas Judge Michael Ward wanted to take time to consider the arguments made at the arraignment.
Plant remains in Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail as of yesterday.
Plant was arrested with Bryson Cuthill, 19, and Logan Clay, 19, both of Nelsonville. The three men are accused of planting pipe bombs that caused about $2,500 worth of damage to Wilson's Camera Shop in downtown Nelsonville. The trio is accused of planting similar bombs at the Nelsonville Elks lodge and Nelsonville-York high school.
Both Cuthill and Clay have pleaded guilty last week.
Cuthill was sentenced to two years in prison with no chance of early release, followed by five years of probation. Clay, who prosecutors believe had no part in manufacturing the bombs, was sentenced a minimum-security rehabilitation program followed by five years of probation.
Plant is scheduled for a pre-trial hearing Sept. 23.-
