Meal options expand

Dining services is offering new meal plans to fill the shortage of dining options before the quarter officially begins.

The new Opening Week Meal Plans offer a set number of meals students can use at a discounted rate beginning with lunch next Thursday and ending at dinner on Sept. 7, instead of paying for each meal as they usually would.

It just wasn't convenient

said Rich Neuman, director of Dining Services, so we made it convenient.

Students can begin moving into the dorms next Thursday at noon, but meal plans do not begin until breakfast on Sept. 8. Right now we've sold 1 025 Neuman said.

Most of those meal plans were sold during precollege, mainly to first year students, according to Emily Howard, marketing manager of Auxiliary Services.

The Early Bobcat 10 allows students to pay $50 for 10 meals, or an average of $5 per meal, instead of the normal $7 walk-in price. The Early Bobcat 5 plan allows students to pay $30 for five meals, or $6 per meal. Both meal plans are available to all students, not just those living in the dorms.

Last year we were charging $6.50 per walk in price

Neuman said so we have discounted it quite a bit. He added that $7 will be the new price for Friday feasts and special weekends at the dining hall throughout the remainder of the school year.

Dining Services is offering three other new meal plans this fall, including The Flex 14 Meal Plan, Destination Dining and the 1804 Club Plan.

Each meal plan offers a certain number of points that can be used at West 82, The Front Room, Latitude 39, Cafe BiblioTech, all Dining Halls and all Grab n Go's. Each point is equivalent to one dollar. The Flex 14 Meal Plan offers 14 meals per week plus 100 points per quarter and Destination Dining offers 300 points for the price of $270. The 1804 Club Plan offers the same deal as Destination Dining but to faculty and staff.

So far, 311 Flex 14 Meal Plans have been sold.

Those meal plans were developed because students told us they wanted a meal plan they could use in Baker University Center

Neuman said. Those meal plans fit that bill.
