The Athens County Sheriff's Office is pursuing a person of interest in their investigation of a bank robbery that they believe could be connected to two fake pipe bombs left in the area on the morning of the robbery.
An undisclosed amount of money was taken from the Hocking Valley Bank in Coolville on July 29, said Sheriff Vernon R. Castle of the Athens County Sheriff's Office. Castle said he believes the person of interest might have fled from the state while the FBI, which is also involved in the investigation, would not confirm that they were pursuing a person of interest.
The FBI did, however, acknowledge that they are investigating a possible connection between the robbery and fake pipe bombs found at nearby Guysville and Stewart post offices earlier that morning.
In relation to the robbery, Castle suggested that certain information released by the Washington County Sheriff's office might be pertinent.
