Shamus Eaton picked a good time to run well.
The senior ran a 25:08 eight kilometers, defeating Cincinnati's Solomon Kessio by eight seconds and Rick King by 10 seconds. Eaton led early on in the race and was never positioned worse than third.
It's the best I've felt probably in two years
Eaton said. Last year was a really down year for me. I was off a lot so it feels good to be back to my old self.
It was great to see Shamus step up, said coach Clay Calkins. To win against the Cincinnati crew, that was a great performance.
The rest of the men's squad did not perform as well.
The Bobcats lost to Cincinnati 20-43 in the dual meet. Junior Ridge Robinson the Bobcats' second runner
finished ninth
40 seconds behind Eaton. Freshmen Tyler Cantley and Joey Cherico and junior Todd Holbrook finished out the top five.
Coming off of two big weeks of training, we were a little flat, Eaton said. Traditionally, Cincinnati always comes out of the gate fast. We're not going to get too down on ourselves.
The women's team fared no better against Cincinnati
losing 30-40.
Juniors Kari Summers and Annie Beecham led the women
finishing second and third with times of 17:35 and 17:41. They finished behind Cincinnati's Lilian Jelimo
who ran 17:24.
You always want the win, but at the same time, (the women) had a great performance, said Calkins. With that performance, it's promising.
The Bobcats were defeated by the gap between Beecham and their third runner
junior Jenielle Hunt. In the 40-second gap
Cincinnati placed their second through fourth runners. Shawnee State also placed their top two runners in that gap.
