Seen: This reporter taking a whack at a field hockey ball after practice
As the players dispersed to pick up balls around the field, coach Neil Macmillan called my name and beckoned me to the top of the goal box. I expected he was just ready to get the interview done and over with, but as it turns out, he had other ideas. Holding out a field hockey stick and placing a ball at the top of the box, Macmillan challenged to slam the ball in the back of the goal.
And slam I did.Well, maybe trickled would be more accurate. But the ball made it to the back of the box, and that's all the matters. And Macmillan (along with most of the field hockey roster) got a good laugh.
Overheard: Too much energy.
Mid-response to one of my probing inquiries, Macmillan stopped to observe a couple of players making fools out of themselves in the moments following practice. I only caught the oddity out of the corner of my eye, but it had something to do with Nina Bruno and Marcy Dull, and ' for whatever reason ' Bruno was sliding on her stomach. Whatever it was, I remarked to Macmillan You should have worked them harder
and he replied, Yeah that's the idea isn't it?
