Football: Garrett discusses injury, NCAA Football 2009

Why have you been limited in practice?

Chris Garrett: I tweaked my ankle against Ohio State and the trainers want me to take it easy this week. I'm still playing; the only thing that is different is that I can't fully practice.

How frustrating is it that you cannot go all out in practice?

CG: It's very boring watching practice. I like being in there with my guys so it's frustrating but at the same time it will get me back to where I need to be health-wise for my injury.

What is Homecoming week like?

CG: Homecoming is always exciting and you always have to win. We're coming in here looking for a win

our first one so it will be exciting.

Do you do anything different during the week for Homecoming?

CG: Practice-wise no. But off the field some of the guys are dancing with the dance team. I'm a part of it.

Speaking of dancing who is the best dancer on the team?

CG: I have to go with (cornerback) Travis Carrie. He doesn't like to talk about but he used to be a part of a dance group in California. He dances in the locker room sometimes when we put on music. And Coach (Dwayne) Dixon is a dancer.

Have you seen yourself on EA Sports NCAA 2009?

CG: Yeah

they kind of cheated me out of my speed because last year I was a 93 and this year I was a 90. I have more accessories like wrist bands. Last year I was fair skinned and this year I am more the tone I am. They're getting there year by year so I'm happy.

When you play are you Ohio?

CG: I'm always Ohio. I played a couple games when I ran the whole time. I had a couple of games where I had 70 carries. I just kept running.

Who challenges you the most in the game?

CG: Taylor Price

but he can never beat me. Ask him about it. Every time I play him I just blow him out.

followed by running

and then reinforced with some more running

If an average person ran as much as the Bobcat's did Tuesday

his or her stomach would probably be more upset than if that individual participated in consecutive crawls on Court Street. They ran 20 sets that consisted of sprinting about three-quarters of the field

then briskly jogging back. They only had between 5 and 15 seconds of rest between sets (depending on how fast each person finished) before coach Stacy Strauss sent them on their way again.

Kudos to coach Jim Welch who ran most of the sprints along with the team and didn't appear to be overly winded as he was consistently shouting words of encouragement while running.

Overheard: Business Like

That was how Strauss described the attitude the team should have toward their play while they were practicing. She and Welch were emphasizing visualizing being on the playing field during a game when they felt tired while conditioning or running through drills.

Free Kick: If you only caught the final set the women ran

you probably wouldn't have guessed they ran twenty by looking at Laura Dieter. She was way out ahead of the pack on just about every set and didn't appear to be too tired when she was done.

provoking questions pass through my head. Which presidential candidate is going to win the state of Ohio? Do socks go with this outfit or should I have worn sandals? This particular day I was pondering how to create world peace. I thought to myself: Self
