A former Ohio University harp professor died after her minivan crashed into a tree Sunday afternoon.
Lucile H. Jennings, 77, of Athens, was driving out of her neighbor's gravel driveway near the intersection of Alderman Road and state Route 550 when her vehicle failed to turn and ran into a large tree, Athens County Coroner Scott Jenkinson said.
Athens sheriff deputies were dispatched to the one-car accident at about 12:45 p.m. Sunday, according to the Athens County Sheriff's Office.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
Jennings retired from the OU School of Music in July 1992 after 32 years of teaching there, according to a letter from within the OU School of Music.
She also served on the Board of Directors of the American Harp Society and regional director of the International Harp Society. -
