With a $700 billion bailout plan in the works to keep the U.S. economy afloat, the issue of accountability is a hot topic. When people don't take responsibility for their own actions and no one holds them accountable, the cost eventually catches up with them.
Writing a similar check to fix our negative impact on the environment wouldn't instantaneously erase decades and centuries of pollution, resource depletion and the destruction of ecosystems. In fact, we would be more responsible to begin fixing the problems we've caused now rather than wait until they are at the point of no return.
It's interesting to think about how far $700 billion could go in respect to the environment. According to www.publicagenda.org, the government spent $31.8 billion,-
