Representatives from the Ohio Department of Transportation attended the Athens County Commissioners meeting yesterday and said that funding for the Nelsonville highway bypass is in place, with construction of phase two slated to begin October 2013.
The main thing that we are concerned about is the Nelsonville bypass
said Commissioner Mark Sullivan.
So far only one business is going to relocate because of construction of the bypass, representatives said. Several power lines will have to be moved as well, they said. The name of the business was not available.
Along with the bypass, the commissioners and the ODOT representatives addressed the lack of safety at some local railroad crossings and the future widening of the Richland Avenue bridge to accommodate more traffic lanes.
The widening will only involve construction on the deck of the bridge so it will not be necessary to go into the river, said ODOT Production Administrator Saleh Eldabaja.
The commissioners also passed a construction project on the Athens bike path. A coat of sealant was recently applied on the path and a crack-filling project is set to begin in November, Sullivan said. - 17
