Ohio University settled its lawsuit with the provider of an allegedly failed water valve that caused more than $1 million in damages to the school in 2006.
The university claims in the suit that a valve failed in Grover Center's fourth-floor chilled water-piping system, resulting in extensive damage to classrooms. About a third of the 338 classes scheduled there were moved to other buildings.
American Valve, Inc. paid $925,000 of the $1 million settlement and A.J. Stockmeister, Inc. contributed the remaining $75,000.
Lexington Insurance Company charged OU a $100,000 deductible for the water damage, which was then recuperated in the settlement, said OU spokeswoman Katie Quaranta. OU estimated that damages totaled $1,093,000.
Settlement proceeds went to the university insurance
who in turn distributed the proceeds on a pro-rata basis to those who cover loss including the university she said.-
