While national and state polls show a deadlock in the presidential election, Athens voters might not be so divided on the major candidates.
Results from the Athens County primary elections showed that Democrats made up a majority of the voters in 2004, 2006 and 2008, according to Athens County voting records. -
Randolph said.
The Republican Party has difficulty making an impact in Athens County because it is historically democratic, he said.
They probably don't see anything to gain Randolph said.- but in the city there are more democrats
said Melissa Short, president of College Republicans.-
there just aren't many of us.
Democratic numbers are high in Athens County because students can relate to the issues like the Iraq War, high costs of education and reproductive rights, said OU College Democrats President Matt Crawford.
Students are taking a look at the issues and choosing a side
