For the drill, the field is condensed as the two goals are set up facing each other and are quite close with one on the midfield line and the other on the on the penalty arc. The two teams only field a few players at a time, and they play until the coach calls for them to switch up who's on the field at the time.
The fast-paced competition works on primarily clearing the ball defensively, but because it so up tempo it also works on reaction time and communication skills.
Overheard: Happy Birthday!
Today while the players were leaving, they made sure to wish coach Stacy Strauss a happy birthday.
Free Kick: After practice a few players stuck around and worked on set plays with coach Jim Welch. They lined up three big, yellow stand-ins that replicated the opposing players that would line up in front of who ever was taking the free kick.
